As an interior stylist, one of the most common concerns I hear is, "I would love to hire a designer, but it is too expensive". It is easy to think this way since many interior design TV Shows show the whole house being re-done. Making it easy to assume that it MUST be expensive.
The truth is, it is not as expensive as you think. There is no one size fits all budget, and there are many different types of opportunities to work with a designer. Whether you want a few hours of consultation or a total makeover, they can work with your budget.
Here are some ways that you can work with an Interior Designer on a budget:
Get general advice and help set your priorities. A good interior designer can offer suggestions for room arrangements, color schemes, and more, based on what is available in your price range.
Pull a house together. A designer can help you bring the new look together.
Complete a room. A designer can also help you with smaller projects, like focusing on one room.
Help you personalize your home. An interior designer can help you add the finishing touches to a room. An interior designer can help by sourcing and purchasing personalized accessories that can transform your home tailored to your style.
Work with what you have. An interior stylist can visit your home or virtually 'visit your home' and offer suggestions for working with what you already own by rearranging furniture, swapping artwork between rooms, re-covering furniture, and painting walls.
Recently, a client came to us asking for our assistance to pull the house together. We gladly helped them out, by not only using the furniture they already have, like their hand-crafted table made by the husband but also sourced some materials to make their home uniquely theirs and come together beautifully.

Lastly, please remember to communicate your budget!
It's important that you're upfront and realistic about how much you are willing and able to pay. Stylists understand that not everyone has the time or money for a complete home makeover. Many will do their best to work with what you have. The interior stylist should let you know if they can meet your expectations within your budget. Be wary of anyone that promises you the moon and back... the likely can't deliver it.
